About me

Hi friends.

Just thought I should tell you a bit more about myself today, so here it goes...
I'm a blessed mother to two daughters- 3 weeks and 17 months, and I love mommy-hood so much. I enjoy spending time with my daughters and I love watching them grow up happy. I'm also a devoted mother to an amazing husband. We've been married almost 4 years, and I can't believe how time has just passed. It hasn't been the easiest years of our marriage, but it has truly been a blessed union and I love him so very much. We both love God and enjoy going to church more than anywhere else. We enjoy each other's company, and he makes me laugh (almost as much as he enjoys his own jokes)...lol!

I enjoy reading the Bible and I strive to be God's servant in everything I do. I am a Seventh Day Adventist with so much respect and admiration for my church and what it believes in- the second coming of Jesus Christ and keeping the Sabbath (Saturday).

I am currently completing my Honors degree in Psychology, and have taken on a new hobby in nails which has led me to realize my suppressed interest in beauty and fashion. I am a Psychology intern at an NGO in Pretoria, and I love spending time with children in need of academic assistance.

I love blogging, and I'm on the internet more hours than I should be- but this had improved my Research skills in more ways than I imagined. My current favourite sites are pinterest and facebook.

This year I look forward to exploring my talents more, completing my studies, and whatever God has in store for me:-)

New Beginnings

Happy New Year everyone!Hope 2012 was filled with joy and fulfilled promises.

I would like to apologize for being so quiet over the past few months- so many things happened in my life that resulted in me missing; such as raising a new born, being pregnant again, adjusting to the hubby's new job, furthering my studies, and venturing into a new hobby of nails and beauty.

In the midst of all the madness I felt so distant to God and I felt I was busy with so many things but not actually achieving anything, but sitting here right now I realize I achieved so much and I need to be more appreciative of that.

I joined a Non-Profit Organization as a Psychology Intern- and this was a great experience on it's own, but as part of my internship I started visiting a home for abandoned children helping them with their schoolwork and being their friend. Although I did not see them often enough due to work and my pregnancy; I think I benefited more than they did.

This year I hope to spend more time with these kids and help them achieve the best of their academic abilities, I hope to be a more organised mom and wife so I can spend more time with my family, I hope to blog more often, I hope to explore my talents more, and I hope to have a closer relationship with God.

Looking forward to a new year filled with promises:-)

THE VIRTOUS WIFE:Her Devotion as a Homemaker.

No place in her life for self-indulgence; no place for laziness; no place for inactivity, she is full of energy in the duties of the home. She takes great delight in her work- rather than being a laborious and boring chore; it is pleasant and enjoyable.

Toil need not be tedious; it can be a tremendous source of pleasure and satisfaction. In our modern, computerized, electronic, entertainment-saturated society we have almost lost the art of working with our hands. Most women don't delight in making clothes with their hands; they delight in shopping for them instead, and thus adversely affecting the family budget. Instead of learning from their mothers how to sew and knit and crochet and mend, many children are too busy watching television or playing computer games. Unfortunately most mothers do not even know how to do these things and could not teach their children even if they wanted to. Our mothers spend countless hours knitting and crocheting and sewing, but these things are becoming a lost art.

Personal testimony; I always become a bit irritable when I ask my mother to fix or maybe sow something for me, because before she does it, she will boast about how she took agriculture and home economics as subjects in school- as irritable as I may be, it is the necessary truth I need to hear so I can consider instilling first such skills in my daughter before giving her worldly knowledge. Ellen White tells us in the book Adventist Home that the most important education in a child’s life begins at home, where they learn how to care for the home and tend for themselves.

The virtuous woman does these things without complaint or begrudging, she finds joy in this labour. Why?  Because she loves the people for whom she does it. It is her love that drives her. Her hands are active after the pleasure of her heart.  It is not hard for her to do these things; it is not an unwilling thing because she loves the people she serves. She loves her work because she loves her family- its value is connected to who she does it for.  Because of such deep devotion to her husband and her children, she willingly denies herself and takes on the most menial of tasks with the greatest amount of pleasure, because she understands that they are an outgrowth of her deep love for those people in her family.

The virtuous woman awakes at the crack of dawn (after being rested well-enough), to prepare for her family to get a good start on the day. She starts of by meditating on prayer because the duties ahead of her require strength and wisdom, and then gets on to plan the rest of the day’s activities. The virtuous woman is diligent, yet flexible and realistic.

Young women today, in many cases, hardly know how to prepare meals, and  families eat out frequently or order food that can be brought into the home.  How many families take time to sit down at a meal together around the table?  Often families don't eat together, don't pray together, don't read together, and as a result don't stay together.

She's entrepreneurial; with the little enterprise she has going.  It is wonderful when a woman is enterprising and if she has the time and the inclination and the talents and abilities to do things in the home that can benefit the family. The godly woman gives very careful thought to matters and doesn't do this rashly or on a sudden impulse.

The virtous wife

The Character of a Christian Wife.

A Christian wife is a wife who maintains an intimate relationship built on complete trust with her husband. The husband is at ease knowing that all he has is safe with the Christian wife, because she cares for him and he knows that. Through their love for one another; the husband knows that the wife would never do anything that would cause him sorrow, or suffering, or pain, or distress. He's never suspicious; he's never worried, he's not jealous, because she is absolutely trustworthy.   The Christian wife is in charge of the domestic matters in her home, because even if she works outside her home; the home is still her first priority. This kind of woman always has her husband’s best interests in her heart and she always seeks to build him up. Her desire is to make her husband every bit of the man that he can be-in every area. All the days of her life she is devoted to the wellbeing of her husband. Good times, bad times, times of plenty, times of little, times of sadness, times of happiness, sick times, well times-her love is ever and always devoted to the successes of her husband. She consistently seeks the very best and the noblest for the man who is her husband. She reveals her virtue by her consistent service on his behalf. Her love is so deep; it has purity and power, and devotion that never changes all her life long! His successes, his comfort, his reputation, his joy are her delight.   The Christian wife doe good and never evil, all the days of her life, and she is devoted to him being everything he can be. When necessary, because his highest good is her greatest desire, she will confront his sin and his weakness. And lovingly she will be a conscience-never unkind, and always submissive. She desires him to be everything he should be; because she loves her husband- she seeks his best interest.   She serves him; she cares for him. Her husband  is known as a man of great nobility and great respect, because of the contributions that she has made selflessly to him. She has done everything she can verbally, as well, to build his reputation, and never do anything to tear it down.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS.

Why are we so oblivious to God’s blessings in our lives? Maybe it’s because we “pray”, but want God to answer our “prayers” in a way that pleases us. Why do we “pray”; “if it is your will”, yet when our will is not fulfilled we sulk and lose hope.

How many of our prayers; no matter how selfish, has the Lord answered even if we did not deserve them? How many blessings have we received from the Lord without anything on our part being offered? Why do we fool ourselves into thinking that our works earn us the Lords’ blessings? Haven’t we learned after so many studies and sermons that what the Lord does for us has nothing to do with what we do or don’t do, that he will bless us- and even those who do not believe- whether or not we serve Him?

Why are we heedless to the blessings we receive from God without even asking for them; and yet hold onto the “prayers” He does not answer?

My prayer is that He may teach me how to claim His promises through prayer the same way David and Job did, not according to my own ideas. May He help me realise the blessings; and so many there are, and that He prepares me while He is busy preparing for those blessings I am not ready for. May we learn to pray the persistent prayer, and may we humble ourselves and ask for forgiveness when we realise that our desires are not His will for us.

I know I’m blessed, and so are you; let us be grateful and revel in the Lord’s abundant love. It pleases Him when we appreciate what He gives us, so let us not disappoint. No matter how little or useless the blessings may seem; let’s remember that God saw it fit for us to have them, so there might just be a purpose. Let us also remember that our blessings should be blessings to others as well; while we eat at the table that the Lord has prepared for us, let the crumbs that fall thereof; fall in the hands of brethren in need of blessings. God vindicates for us, why do we punish ourselves?

ADVERSITIES

Troubles come with a multitude of names- accidents, afflictions, bereavement, calamities, difficulties, disappointments, disasters, failures, hard times, hurts, miseries, misfortunes, ruin, sufferings, tragedies, trials, tribulations, or woes. They come, sometimes unexpectedly, sometimes after repeated warnings. Adversities may be temporarily discomforting or permanently disabling, even life- threatening or life- taking. Some adversities are merely higher hurdles over which we can climb with a little more effort, while others permanently wound us and we must find a way to triumph despite them. The one thing we can all count on about adversity is that it will surely come. We will all have troubles, so it is not a matter of will we, or won’t we- the issue is what we will do with adversity when it comes. We must recognize that suffering is not forever.

There is nothing that happens to you that surprises God; he knows every detail and walks beside you all the way. Sometimes God calms the storm-and sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms his child. When going through challenges of any kind- mental, emotional, physical, spiritual; we need the Restorer of life Himself. When unemployment, sickness, darkens, or death cloud our faith; we need to give it all to God. If you ever feel like you’re drowning in an ocean of problems, or your life is disoriented and falling apart; remember that Jesus is there to bring it all together and lift you up. “The secret of surviving does not always lie in the restoration of the body, but in the maintenance of the Spirit.”- R. Henrick.

Adversities help us understand Christ better because He suffered for us- this deepens our relationship with Him.When it feels like life is closing in on you, and God is nowhere to be found; look at the history of God’s dealings with His people. Look back at Scripture- did He ever turn a blind eye when His children needed him? Look back at your own History with him; hasn’t He always been there when you needed Him? No matter how hard pressed you may be, or how overwhelmed you may feel; trust Him to keep you from being crushed or pushed to the point of despair. Mark 6: 48,50 – “He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. He came to them… “It’s alright,” He said.” We do not have to endure the troubled waters of our lives alone.

Afflictions are often mercies in disguise, we know not what we might have been without them. When God in His mysterious providence overthrows all our cherished plans, and we may receive sorrow in the place of joy, we will bow in submission and say, "Thy will, Oh God, be done." We must and we will ever cherish a calm, religious trust in One who loves us, who gave His life for us. "The Lord will command his loving-kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with us. The Lord looks upon our afflictions. He graciously and discriminately meets them out and apportions them. As a refiner of silver He watches us every moment until the purification is complete. The furnace is to purify and refine, not to destroy and consume.

Through our suffering, God is working on somebody, and that means; someone will be saved through our suffering. So be careful how you fall, you might just take someone down with you. Problems are an inevitable by- product of fallen human life; they were not part of God’s plan. But being the loving God that He is; He has equipped us with promises to help us through the challenges we meet in this journey called life. Isa 43:2-3 When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Find strength in your trials; for God is always there with you.

The troubles of this world can lead one to panic and feel caged in. Joshua reminds us in Joshua 1: 9 to be strong in the struggles we may come across. Do not ask the Lord “why me?”, who then? Just tell the devil “try me.”May the revival begin with you. What a world this would be if we could forget our troubles as easily as we forget our blessings. I point you to the only sure and unfailing protection. Ask God for Christ’s sake to watch over and bless you. Ever seek for help in the Mighty One; His outstretched arm will save. Trying as your case may be, never yield to despondency. Guard yourself, your heart may ache near to breaking-remember He does not willingly afflict nor grieve His children. Never allow yourself to mourn. Be hopeful, be ever cheerful in God, and a brighter morning will come. Be steadfast in the hour of trial, and you will gain at last a crown which will never fade away. God will bless your poor, stricken, wounded soul. Cling to His hand; hold fast. He will take you and all your grief and burdens if you will only cast them all upon Him.

Once you have crossed over to slid ground; remember to thank Him for carrying you. Use those moments as an opportunity to testify to those who suffer the same kinds of adversities you faced. Look around you; God has placed good friends in your life to support you. He shows Himself to you in many ways. Appreciate Him and thank Him for being there.

Feeling Happy

Why is it so easy for one to feel more connected and closer to God when all is well?
I've been asking myself this question the whole morning, but have not come up with an asnwer so far. Perhaps there are many answers to this question; but the two that make the most sense to me so far are: it is God who brings about such feelings, and who better to acknowledge and think of when one is immersed in such feelings.
I'm having such a peaceful and pleasant day, not because something great has happened; but simply because I have found no reason to moan and groan about anything today-that is not something one gets to experience everyday, considering the busy lives that we live that are so full of destruction.
Whatever the reason may be to my question, I'm certain that God has no problem with me realising Him as the source of my joy (though it would be nicer to have such confidence in Him even when times are not so good)- for that is exactly what He is: THE SOURCE OF MY JOY

The Stranger in the Rain

I found myself stranded in the rain a few weeks ago, in the middle of a strong thunderstorm. I felt so vulnerable and alone, screamed at one point in fear of a lighting that hit right before me. Just when my tears were about to roll down; a kind stranger stopped in her car and asked while opening her window and moving her bags from the passenger seat: “what are you doing walking in this rain?” The feeling of being overwhelmed and relief, coupled by my fear, brought about a once in a lifetime experience.

I stepped into her car, she asked if I was okay, I thanked her for stopping. All she ever spoke about was me and my wellbeing, and in every response I gave I was grateful. She showed so much concern; the kind one rarely gets to get in life- I felt so safe. She would have done too much already by just dropping me off at the entrance of my complex; but she saw it fit to drop me at my doorstep

I realised when she drove away that I didn’t get this kind-hearted woman’s name, let alone exchange numbers. I got into the house and lay on my bed in amazement of such an experience, and I praised God for using her.

Nowadays I feel so obligated (in a good way) to show gratitude especially to strangers, because I do not know if it might be the stranger in the rain. I smile at them not only to show kindness, but because I remember the stranger in the rain when I see the few features I remember about her- her hairstyle, and height.

I never got to say “thank you” properly, but perhaps that is God’s plan for me. I’ll never get to show her my gratitude, but because she was a blessing to me; I hope to be a blessing to others and show them acts of kindness. It might not be giving a lift to a stranger in the middle of the night; but it has helped me realise that not all strangers in the night are bad people, some are actually meant to be there to save us; and therefore I will do my best to bless others.

I’m eternally grateful to the stranger in the rain

The benefits of having a relationship with God

Having a relationship with God gives you a hiding place when the world seems to be agianst you, it keeps you sane when it feels like the load is too much to handle. It puts a smile on your face when the world assumes you’re going through the worst experience any human being could go through. It gives you hope for a better tomorrow, it allows you to practice faith in something you do not have to understand or justify. It lets you speak your thoughts at anytime without waiting for availability.

God is a friend you can always rely on, He never disappoints- even when He does not answer our prayers. You need not pretend with Him, for He wants you as you are; weak, broke, weird, stupid, useless, inferior, insignificant, shy, and anything else you can think of.

I do not know what you might be going through in your life right now, but I can personally tell you that there is joy in allowing Him to be at all times. Try Him if you haven’t yet established a relationship with Him; speak to Him, tell Him your worries and all your joys- see if He won’t listen. The world has so much to offer, but it all comes at a price; so why not take God up on His offer of eternal life that comes freely? There really is life after this, but it starts here. Do not compromise guys, serve Him and be faithful to Him- for the benefits of having a relationship with God are better than any other relationship the world can offer.

Our response to tests

Why are we so quick to give in when things don’t go our away? Why do we allow the devil to take away our joy when minor disruptions come our way?

It’s so sad how we respond to trials and adversities, I cannot even begin to imagine how much more sad God becomes when we make earthly problems bigger than Him instead of telling our problems how big our Lord is. The test of our faith leaves us with no faith, forgetting that the Lord said such would happen but we should rejoice in Him for they are signs of greater things to come. We refuse to take God for His word, let alone put Him to the test.

His promises are true, He never fails or dissapoints. If we could just once take Him for His word; when troubles come, let us face them boldly and be confident that He is in control. But He will only do so if we invite Him and give Him full control. The Lord is waiting to cater to all our needs, only at our invitation, complimented by our faith. Why suffer when we have such a solid rock to run to? Why run to the world (the source of our troubles), when we can run to Him?

Next time a problem comes your way; do not be afraid, and never doubt your Master for He lives and will deliver you from every situation. Love Him through bad and good times; praise Him through bad and good times. Seek His face, and seek His wisdom at all times. Never allow a speck of doubt to cloud your faith, for that is the devil’s gateway. Smile at the storm and stand firm in your faith, for the Lord sees your every tear and knows your every trouble.

♫ Keeping a song in the heart ♫

Sometimes in life we become so clouded by pain, we find ourselves drowning in sorrow, so much that even prayer or a chat with a friend is not an option. We want to express how we feel, yet we are so angry because we do not understand why “we are going through such tribulations”, “why won’t the pain go away”, “what have we done to deserve all this?”

I have found that keeping a song in my heart brings so much healing to my soul in times of undescribable pain. Because there is a song for almost every emotion; when life throws it’s hardest blows at me, with tears in my eyes and a shaky voivce; I will praise the Lord or lay my complains at His feet- for I know the morning will come and He will release the breakthrough for me.

When a loved one is in pain and I find no words of comfort for them; when there is no explanation good enough for their pain, and my presence seems to not make a difference; I sing a song in my heart and ask the Lord to come through for me.

There is power in a song. The power comes not only from the beats or rhythm of the song (for at times we get those wrong, or those of us wh are vocally wounded make it unbearable to listen); but from the picture that comes to mind when a song of victory is sang, from the release of spiritual chains that had one bound; more so from the reassurance of the mighy words in a song.

Though we walk and stumble along the way, though the devil may try to take our hope and shatter our dreams; he cannot steal our song... for it is kept in the heart.

A new Covenant

So many things have happened in the past few weeks; I have faced so many challenges and the devil almost had me where he wanted to place me. But little did He know that the Lord was on my side; even at times when I lost all hope and forgot all about my faith, I somehow still had the strength to make it through-how great is the Lord?
One of the biggest challenges was when my relationship with someone who had been my best friend for more than a decade told me what I had to offer as a friend was not good enough- it was hard, I felt it was a blow below the belt because in my eyes I had given the relationship the best I could give.
The Lord never left me though, for I still heard the still small voice from afar; the voice that whispered sweet words of courage and promises in my ear. The Lord never left my side, nor did He take away His promises; but I once more allowed humanity to take control over divinity. I was so troubled and worried, my faith was clouded by doubt. But my father’s grace was always upon me, His promises still held true and His word never changed.
I love the Lord, and I have made a covenant with Him again. My heart is willing, and I place my hope and faith at His feet. I ask of Him to guide me, to keep me strong. To shelter me with His love and instil in me the character of Christ and the seed of Spiritual growth. I know He never left me, and I return to Him to have Him fill my cup once more.

A positive Spiritual attitude

Philippians 2:5-8 “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!”
A positive Spiritual attitude is joyful to God for Christ is light, and in him is no darkness at all. It looks toward the light. It speaks the praise of God and makes others happy. Doing this work will strengthen the best atitude. Throw the windows of the soul wide open heavenward, and let the sunshine of Christ’s righteousness in. Morning, noon, and night your heart may be filled with the bright rays of heaven’s light.”As a Christian I have much to praise God for.Whatever my struggles, whatever my fears, whatever my pains, whatever my losses and disappointments, I have much to be thankful to God. No matter what my immediate situation is, I still have the hope and promise of eternal life in Jesus, the hope and promise that “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (
Rev. 21:4). That alone, if nothing else, gives me reasons to praise.
Before we can praise in sincerity, we need to have personally experienced the goodness of the Lord. We need to know for ourselves the reality of God and the reality of God’s love for us as individuals. This is something the Lord will do for anyone and everyone who is open to His leading. It is only our stubborn hearts and carnal natures that keep us from knowing for ourselves the goodness and love of God. And once we come to know that goodness and that love, how could we help but praise the Lord?

Let us learn to live more and more in an attitude of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord, despite whatever trials and sufferings we face

reason,season, or lifetime?

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you know which one it is; you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON; it is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, or provide some guidance and support; to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They are there for the reason you need them to be; whatever it may be. Sometimes, without any wrongdoing; the relationship might come to an end. They may die, or maybe just walk away, sometimes the things they do may cause you to take the stand. You need not despair; for your need has been met- be it pleasantly, or not. Your desires might be fulfilled- then their work is done.

When people come in to your life for a SEASON; your turn has come to share, grow, and learn. The experience might make you laugh, bring you peace, or leave you in pain. You could learn something new, and the joy that comes at such times is so unbelievable- for it's only for a SEASON. Try not to doubt; if it's for a SEASON, it might feel real- because it's real.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons, you build a solid foundation to have solid relationships. Yours is to accept the lesson! Love them, and put what you have learned to use in every other relationship, and area of your life.

Remember: "love is blind; friendship is calirvoyant."

Joy

John 16: 20-“You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.” Jesus knew that life on this earth would not be easy; that at times is would be difficult and discouraging to continue in this walk. He knew that we would make bad choices, suffer illnesses, bare the brunt of broken relationships and even suffer for our faith in God. He knew from the beginning that we would at times grieve along the way. But in the midst of our pain and grieving, Jesus reminds us that one day our grief will turn into joy.
If you have accepted Christ as your Savior-know that your eternity is set! Take this truth with you; that His love for you will turn grief into joy. For when your heart is pained, the Lord is watching every tear that runs down your face. When you find yourself in difficult situations, and you will; don’t lose focus of the big picture- know that things are going to get better.
There are so many tips in the world about finding joy; motivational speakers advice us to put ourselves and happiness first before everything, bankers advice us to invest as much as we can to enjoy life in the later stages of adulthood, and even our doctors advice us to put our health first. The steps that I have for you today are found in the book of Romans 12:12-“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, and faithful in prayer.” We’ve all been through a lot of despair and sorrow at some time in our lives, and we all know this road is not always easy to travel with the hope that joy is ahead of it all. But these three steps are meant to help us get out of our despair- to find joy in the Lord when our cares are too heavy for us.

Psalm 16:11-“You have made known to me the path of life;you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Psalm 112- “Praise the LORD.Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.”
Rom 7:22- “For in my inner being I delight in God's law.”
